Riley Wheeldon has been to the top – well, pretty close – of the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada mountain, having won the Syncrude Boreal Open presented by AECON in 2013 and finishing second on the money list that year behind Mackenzie Hughes, and then, near the bottom of that same mountain.
Golf has a way of being humbling like that.
Wheeldon has battled injuries and inconsistent play after his successful 2013, and finished 67th on the money list a year ago despite a tie for fourth at the Players Cup. Finishing outside the top-60 meant a return trip to Q-School for the 26-year-old, but with a solo-sixth at the Crown Isle Resort site, he’s got solid status heading into his year.
Wheeldon spent his winter in Scottsdale, AZ playing mini-tour events – he won one and had a fifth-place finish in another – and is eager to get back to the level of play on the Mackenzie Tour has seen from him before.
